Intro:
If you're reading this, it's probably because you're interested in some facet of the Backrooms Wiki Book Club! Whether it's being interested in what exactly the book club is or trying to find conversation starters in the book club, the interest in it brought you here!
The goal of this article will be to fill you in on everything the book club has to offer!
Basics About Book Club
For those exclusively onsite, book club is a group on the Backrooms Wikidot discord server dedicated to looking at interesting articles, reading them simultaneously and then giving thoughts as a collective group.
The group will choose a leader once every few months to pick out articles for that given month.
How do I join?
Simple, all you need to do is join the tech support server, go into roles, and react to the 'Book Club Notifications' message. After you've done this, you should have the 'Book Club Member' role. Afterwards, you can participate right away!
What do I get out of it?
On top of being a great way to interact with others in the community, it'll be a great way to improve reading and writing skills!
Why Community-ran?
The truth is, having community groups like this needing staff to exist isn't applicable long-term. Whether it be staff burnout, staff forgets to maintain it, or we get short on staff, eventually wrench is thrown into the cog. By having it run by our wonderful community—only being overseen by staff—the survival of the book club is dependent on the community!
Kahoots?
Once every couple months (tbd) staff holds a vote on whether a Kahoot will be held. These Kahoot's—whose questions would be based around the articles the Book Club has read—would eventually be streamed for the chance at the 'Game Champion' role.
[Info here tbd since it hasn't been entirely discussed]
What kinds of questions should I ask?
Like every book club, conversations after the initial reading should be held. Occasionally, you may run out of conversations or questions to ask, so here are a few questions to start conversation!
- What key themes stood out to you?
- Was there any phrases that spoke to you in particular?
- How do you think the article handles its concept
- Was there anything that could be improved upon in your opinion?
- What were your expectations before reading? Were they met?
- When did the article pique your interest—if at all.
- Would this be an article you'd promote personally?
