August 2026 Evaluations

Hello everyone! Welcome to the August staff evals for 2026. This month, we had the glossary event and the initiation of the trial period for our new posting policy. We also had quite some changes for our roster as well, gaining and regaining some more staff members, while sadly losing others as well:

Sinnamire was promoted to Moderator.
r a t i f rejoined staff as a Moderator.
I (Positive123) rejoined staff as Junior Staff.
mudkipped joined staff as Junior Staff.
LiminalDoctor resigned from their subteam captain role, leaving another subteam captain spot vacant.
Our community admin also fully resigned from their position, leaving another admin slot open.

July 2026 Evals

Quite an uneventful month actually, but it was definitely why we got a decent rest! Hello my dearies, this is all what happened in July 2026 ^_^ We went through some roster changes, but aside from that, we stayed relatively the same:

I (vange) was promoted to Administrator to lead the Community Team.
YourWeirdPlant was promoted to Moderator.
Natheniel Greyger was promoted to Moderator.
Poliacci was fully demoted from their position of Moderator due to scheduling constraints.
r a t i f fully resigned from their position of Community Administrator due to scheduling constraints and real life circumstances.
ThatTwigMan became Junior Staff.

During this month and following the last evals:

Yours truly, CamaradeAlbabar was made an Admin and the Head of the Disciplinary Team, replacing Red-eyes Dragoon who became a Moderator. Magnileak was ful'y demoted during the month. Ambersight was fully demoted during the last evaluations, while VivamusLudio was demoted to JStaff. Positive123 left the team. I'm sure I missed other things.

[MAJOR BANS WORKS PROJECT] Disclaimer on top of author pages and works of the targeted authors

Hello everyone,

As you may be aware of, the Disc Team has launched a process to review the prolonged presence of works published by authors since banned after grave allegations concerning serious misconducts and abusive behaviors.

If you are not aware, please backread through the "Major Bans Works Project" thread in the #staff-chat channel of the staffcord, and consult the following draft: http://backrooms-sandbox-2.wikidot.com/author-staff-suggestions

If you wish to recuse yourself from the project, or the vote, please state so in this thread, if you haven't done it previously.

To better inform the public about this process, a proposal has been made to include disclaimers on author pages and/or the works of those banned authors. The disclaimer would appear as such:

The works of this author is currently under the disciplinary review of the Staff Team, and may be unlisted, archived or completely removed from the Backrooms Wiki.

This author has been permanently banned due to evidenced accusations of serious misconducts and abusive behaviors incompatible with their presence in the community. Staff does not advocate that users or readers of the Backrooms Wiki seek out this author on/off Wikidot.

This author's public disciplinary log is available here.

What is the objective of this thread?

To vote on the application of this disclaimer, and whether or not said disclaimer should be added onto author pages, and/or all of the pages targeted by the Major Bans Works Project.

What will happen?

Should the vote fail, the disclaimer will not be added, and further discussions will happen to decide whether or not an amended disclaimer is necessary, or if no disclaimer should be added at all for the duration of the project.

Should the vote pass, the disclaimer will be added on pages for which the motion passed. Should both motions fail, the results will be assumed as if the initial motion failed.

How long will the vote last?

Three days, ending around February 26th 5PM (GMT+1). In the meantime, volunteers and staffers will comb through the works of the authors targeted by the project and determine their degree of influence.

Last month was pretty busy in terms of community centered events, as pride month was occurring. During this time, we hosted a couple critique nights and an art blitz—both of which were focused on commemorating the occasion. This month was relatively uneventful in terms of newly implemented systems for the staff team to manage. The Greenlight Exemption form was established, which allows users to post pages without requiring an officialized clearing by a Greenlighter/staff member. This month has been a net positive in terms of new staff members, giving us a lot more leeway to roll out more ambitious programs or solidify big changes to the community.

February 2025 Staff Evaluations

Welcome to the February 2025 Staff Evaluations, here were the major events:

Positive123 joined as a staff helper.
YourWeirdPlant was promoted to moderator.
Schulzenreich was promoted to moderator.
Abdallah Amr joined as junior staff member.
Liurnia assumed leadership of the Site and Forum Engagement sub-team.
LiminalDoctor became the Discord sub-team but later resigned from their moderator role.
LaundryFan_04 resigned from their moderator role.
jan Jejasa resigned from their administrator position; tech team has no head.

Beyond individual promotions and resignations, the "sub-team" system was officially launched, creating structured groups to help organize community team efforts. The current sub-teams include Discord and Community Events, Social Media, and Site and Forum Engagement. On the community side, CharCon continues as the posting period begins; the rewrite application process has been modified slightly, which introduced a cool-down on applications.

So Sky3 suggested we have templates to send to people who's drafts are incredibly unpolished. I quite liked the idea, as did most of the GLMP. Here are some ideas that I think would work, but I would like more feedback:

Critique is short and a simple, "I like it" or "I don't like it"
Your critique violates our guidelines. While stating your opinion is fine, it is unhelpful to the author to fix what may be wrong with the page. Remember, critique on drafts must be substantial. For example, if there were parts of the draft that you didn't like, explain your reasoning. Please elaborate more in your critique.

Draft Uses AI
Any use of AI is not allowed on our site (with the exception of using it for grammar checking). Remove all parts created by the AI generator.

Once you have made changes, reach out to critics either from Meet the Critics in the forums or our Discord.

Draft boils down to "Place that is Weird" or Draft is uninteresting
This draft has little substance to it. We have moved beyond "place that is weird," and video game tropes and would like to see a page that means something. Whether it's making a statement on the nature of humanity, attempting to induce an emotion or anything else of the like, the draft needs to have something.

Alright, welcome to the June Staff evaluations. This month, there were no new staff members welcomed into the team. With that being said, Univ has resigned from their moderator position on the team, so I believe it would make sense to have a discussion on whether or not LiminalDoctor and/or Super-Robot14 should be promoted to moderator to make up for this loss. Robot has been a junior staff member for quite a while, and I think they should either be promoted or demoted; enough time has elapsed for a decision to be made about that. Art Pages Proposal

Art pages have been highly requested by our artist members of the site. As it's a popular idea and we are a multimedia site, I see no reason to not implement this (especially since it would make picking featured art easier ^^').

A rough draft for the rules for posting an art page would be as follows:

The Site Rules apply to art pages as well. Things that break the site rules will be deleted.
The artist must be the one to post the work OR have proof of their permission for the work to be posted here. While there are lots of interesting art pieces out there, we want to showcase members' talents rather than someone who is not from our community.
It should be hosted on the wiki itself rather than the sandbox.
1. However, if the image is too large, they can use a site such as Imgur or DeviantArt to host their page. On the host site, there must be a statement that the page is CC BY SA so that the art is compatible with our license. Personal sites will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
A broken image link for art pages is cause for deletion after 1 month (time subject to change).
Art pages are subject to the deletion threshold. The current deletion threshold for art will be -1 (threshold subject to change).
Art pages posted to the site are also subject to the Critique Policy. For example, statements like, "The composition of this piece could use some work because XYZ." would be allowed. But "This is trash. You should practice more," would not be.

Some questions I have are this:

1. Can people just coldpost art?
2. Is there anything else we're missing?

Other ideas would be to expand art pages to multimedia pages in general. For example, we could create an art tag for art, but we could also add a video tag if someone wanted to do a video.

With that being said, the activity of both junior staff members¹ should be discussed, and I believe a conversation about whether or not they should be considered for the moderator position should occur. For a while, we used to have tags like joke-phenomenon and joke-level. This was seen as overkill, and we started doing joke and phenomenon on the same page instead. This seemed like a pretty good move at the time because the tag for each type of joke page was pretty overkill.

Additionally, we have the tags enigmatic-level and enigmatic-entity, but such pages also get the normal entity and level tags as appropriate.

The problem with this — especially as concerns the goal of wikiproject titles (that being to make navigation nicer) is that it makes the tag pages cluttered. Even with the titles project making level names uniform, bringing us up to the standard of SCP regarding their tag pages' organisation as I pointed out on the wikiproject page, the joke pages and enigmatic pages make the category cluttered, and I'm not sure it's what the user is looking for when they click on the tag level on one of these pages — I think that when you click the top level tag for a page you should get a tag list of pages that are the same category as the one you were just on — not pages that are different enough to warrant a different category.

I think we should make a few changes.

Joke Pages

We should remove the category tags and just use joke for all of them, I'm not sure there's enough of them to justify reinstating the old system with tags for each category, but these shouldn't be included in the main tags since they're not really the same thing.

Enigmatics

Enigmatic levels and entities already have top-level tags, but they also get the top level tag for levels and entities respectively. We should just remove the second tag. It's less confusing if they're seperate.

Enigmatic Entity should be a tag, not a 'mainlist'.

Yeah it's kind of the removing enigmatic entities thing but less extreme and I hope the best of both worlds.

One main problem I have with enigmatic entities is that they make the mainlist of entities seem more boring my delegating the 'cooler' entities elsewhere, limiting the heights the original category can reach.

Another problem is that the enigmatic entities are not actually different from the criteria for the original category, they fit it perfectly in comparison to the new unnumbered levels which are different from normal levels in some essential way. All enigmatic entities could be numbered and if would make no difference.

One last problem is that this is an inconsistent approach to showing that these entities are all [whatever definition we pick] because surely that should just be a tag. With other things we use tags to designate a shared property, why not this?

Proposal Action

Whatever definition we pick for enigmatic entities, the 'category' should be changed to a tag and the entities moved anyway.

It’s that time of the month again. This time, we’re holding 3 votes.

The first one is for the Head Admin position. You will be voting on whether the position is retained or abolished. With the head admin no longer owning all of the community spaces, and with the admins having de facto operated as equals for a long time, the need for the position is not clear. Times of Head Admin inactivity have shown the staff team is capable of operating without a Head Admin. However, it is possible the full potential of the Head Admin position has not yet been reached. An active and emotionally intelligent Head Admin could provide leadership and help guide our staff team through our current changes and challenges.

This brings us to our next vote, the vote for the new Head Admin. If the position is not abolished, we should decide who gets to hold it. The voting method to be used is a system of approval voting. Mark your stance for each of the candidates. You can and are encouraged to vote even if you wish to abolish the position. This vote is for the event that does not happen.

Please note that even if the position is abolished or someone other than Viv is chosen, Viv will continue to be the owner of the wiki. The Discord server will likewise remain in the hands of MaksuS.

Lastly, we will be voting for promotions and demotions of staff members. Or, this time, only demotions. Instead of the experimental system of voting for each staff member used in January and February, this month marks a return back to the old nomination based system. For this month, no staff member was nominated for promotion.

For each staff member nominated, mark the preferred position. If you don’t want them to be demoted, mark their current position. If you want them to be demoted from the staff team entirely, mark Full. If you’re one of the nominated people, remove or strike through that row.

Getting help with non-cc image replacements

This is a vote to decide on which proposal is most suitable for allowing non-staff users to help replace images of _non-cc or _ai-non-cc tagged pages.

For context, please read this discord forum post.

Proposal 1:

In Proposal 1 we would have a role similar to the critic role where users who have the skills and want to volunteer can aid the search for these replacements. They would report to an exclusive channel where they propose the images to us and we approve/deny them. After, we would be in charge of implementing them and logging them. One might choose this proposal because we can regulate who has this role, so if someone is being unproductive we can always remove their role. This proposal would also make the server less messy for normal users since the channel for this will be hidden from everyone except staff and people with this role. This proposal would also form a little team that we can recognize and keep track of.

Proposal 2:

In Proposal 2 we would have a discord forum channel (Same as suggestions, critique/idea forum) where we would have all the searching tools and non-cc pages in a pinned post. Then anyone can create a post with a replacement suggestion where people can discuss the replacement and we can approve/deny it. One might choose this proposal since it's relatively simple, allows for the most contribution, and allows users to give opinions on the replacements.

This is for staff who believe we shouldn't seek help from the users, or believe none of these proposals are optimal.

The results of this vote will be based on whatever option has received majority support by the end of the time limit. You may only vote for one of the three.

Restructuring staff to not have any teams

This vote is being held to determine if splitting up staff across multiple teams is a necessity for running the site. Those *against** getting rid of teams will vote with a "No, I am not", and those for getting rid of them will vote with a "Yes, I am".

Arguments against getting rid of them:

Having a clear structure eases delegating work
Too big of a change compared to the current structure
People are able to avoid working in areas they're uncomfortable with

Arguments for getting rid of them:

Most staff members already participate in duties that are outside of their designated teams
Our size and workforce is too small to warrant having such a complex layout
If someone isn't interested in working in a certain sector, they can simply state it

A simple split that would divide the workload between two distinctive sectors of the Wikidot: the site and the discord server. Highly specialised areas such as tech, disciplinary, (international), and licencing will be opt-in roles for those skilled and knowledgeable on said subjects. Proper communication would consistently be expected from the two teams.

Inefficient communication may lead to complete oversight and mistakes in staff action.

Option B

Maintenance
Community Management

A division that, unlike the previous one, splits the workload between two work areas: general maintenance and community management. Like before, highly specialised areas such as tech, disciplinary, (international), and licencing will be opt-in roles for those skilled and knowledgeable on said subjects, tech, (international), and licencing to maintenance and disciplinary to community management respectively. Proper communication would consistently be expected from the two teams.

Total duties may overwhelm individual staff members to the degree of burnout.

A similar split to the previous one, which, instead of incorporating them into Maintenance and Community, keeps highly skilled areas separate. Licencing is still an opt-in role under this option due to its low priority in the current environment. International is kept separate until further notice. Proper communication would consistently be expected from all the teams.

The amount of teams may stretch the team too thin for any actionable work.

The results of this vote will be determined on the amount of staff voting for or against getting rid of teams. In the situation that the majority is for, Options A/B/C will be overlooked, and teams will be a thing no more. In the case that the majority is against, Options A/B/C will determine the result, which will naturally be based on the majority of the three. Note that due to the definitiveness needed from this vote, you may only vote for one of the three.

Shifting the rewrite team to the GLMP

Gah I have writings explanations so huh-

This is a vote to shift the rewrite staff duties to the greenlighters: voting, logging and checking progress.

Instead of staff being handling rewrite applications, it would be managed by greenlighters on the GLMP server.

Who?

Greenlighters, greenlighters trainees and greenflame trialees, like we do on feature voting, except there are no staff involvment.

Where?

Votes would be held on the GLMP just like they do on the staff server. For the logging process of rewrite apps and pending rewrites, all greenlighters would have access to oversight to continue the public logging process. If this is not possible, a staff member would update it after a rewrite is discussed.

Why?

Greenlighters are supposed to be the one in charge of the site quality. Rewrites have been a staff duty for the longest time, but it shouldn't be this way. With this duty in the GLers hands, this will allow for a simpler structure for staff. It also makes sense because rewrite apps are tied to site quality, which is enforced by greelighters.

Vote: Mass-Demotion of Inactive Staff

One of the biggest problems currently plaguing the staff is their activity, or lack thereof. The amount of total staff at the moment is disingenuous to the amount of active staff. For the sake of professionalism, and to not sway the outcome of this proposal in either direction, I will not name names. But suffice to say, much of the current "staff” have been nothing but dead weight as of recently. Staff duties fall on a small minority rather than the whole. While this may also be due to lack of promotions (another separate problem), the bigger problem is a false representation of how many (active) staff there actually are. There needs to be a significant consolidation of staff, and the best start is to demote all inactive ones.

With all that having been said, this vote is to determine whether to enact a mass-demotion of all inactive staff in the upcoming staff evaluation. Determining who they actually are can be a separate matter, but my personal criteria would be any staff that has not done much if anything within the month, regardless of the circumstances surrounding inactivity.

Vote: Allowing Rewrites Through Check System

It has already been known that GLE is not applicable to rewrites unless they are self-rewrites. However, for a while there was an assumption that rewrites could still be posted via the check system. In fact, rewrites such as Level 51 and The Game Master were cleared (though by mistake) and performed well.

Some believe that the current policy isn’t necessary, and that rewrites don’t require greenlights to ensure quality.

There has also been prior discussion regarding this topic on this this discord thread, which provides further context.

This vote will be over whether to allow rewrites to be cleared, with greenlights no longer being mandatory for rewrites.

I think we can all agree that maturity (or lack thereof) has become an increasingly prevalent problem in this community. There has already been prior debate over this topic on this discord thread and this other oversight thread, which summarize the context behind this better than I can.

This vote will be over whether to raise the age limit by 1 year, making the new age limit 16. This would prevent new 15-year-olds from joining the site and server, but all existing 15-year-old users would be grandfathered.

Entity 1 Discussion

So, since the community has had a fair share of time to discuss and think about what we're doing with entity 1, I think us staff should have some time too. Essentially, if you aren't caught up, the general consensus is that people would like to open up the entity 1 slot, but what we'll actually put in the slot is the tricky part. I'll list some of the ideas for what we'd do from the comfeed thread in TS, and I'll start a vote once staff has properly discussed it to make sure we've considered all of our options.

Proposed ideas:

Allowing the slot to fill on its own; opening it as a "first come first serve" kinda thing, essentially.
Holding a second entity1con.
Allowing one of the pages from the old entity1con to fill the slot.
Having it be a collab somewhat similar to object 1 (?).

Discuss away! Voting will open once at least like a dozen staff have commented.
