Overview
Jstaff is a trial role given to newly recruited staff members after their application is accepted (returning staff members may directly become moderators due to their experience). This role allows staff to evaluate the new staff member, to see if they are active, mature and motivated enough to work on the wiki (for example if they have enough self-control or if they are able to keep up with staff discussions). While they obviously can and are encouraged to talk and give their input in any staff discussion, they won't be able to vote until they become full moderators (and therefore are fully trusted). They can mute and kick members, but cannot ban nor tempban. Jstaff have access to all channels of staff, both on the staff site, discord and staff server.
To become a moderator, a jstaff has to be promoted in the two full months (although an extra month can also be used in the case where two isn't enough) following his application acceptance (therefore the current month of acceptance isn't relevant so one-week periods do not negatively affect the jstaff). If a jstaff can't be promoted after two months, they will leave staff duties entirely.
When looking at usernames on the wiki or on the server, it's possible to tell them apart with their yellow names.
Role on the Site
- Learns about the different duties of staff and how the teams operate
- Learn and exercise judgement in which incidents require staff attention and which do not. (When in doubt, ask: Does this break a rule? If not, is it hurting or bothering anyone?)
- Moderate and preside over chat and bring all necessary incidents to staff attention via the proper channels
- Suggest changes or improvements to the site for discussion among staff
- Provide input on projects such as rewrites of official pages and policy updates
- Monitor recent changes and notify staff if there is suspicious activity
- Be active and motivated in order to become a full moderator
Role on the Discord Server
- Manage user roles
- Moderate user nicknames e.g. for pingability
- Keep an eye on chat, calm things down if needs be
