Wikiproject Licensebox

Society when free media:

This is Wikiproject Licensebox, a wiki-wide collaborative effort to improve citation on the wiki. Citation has evolved quite a bit since the wiki's inception, from crediting images in author forum posts to posting links in author collapsibles. These days, though, we have the standardized license box component, which allows for easier attribution, and is an easy way for others to credit our own work — but it still needs implemented!

This wikiproject is open to users, jstaff, mods, and admins to contribute to.

Why?

  1. The Backrooms are in a bit of a bad copyright position with A24 and such companies making things with the name. That's all well and good, but we should probably respect copyright. Y'know. In case.
  2. The Backrooms Wiki is creative commons — and it's important to treat this as a pro, and not a con. It's a free media project, and that's sort of in the spirit of it (or at least it should be) — making sure to give the respect of proper credit to any other people who choose to release their work as free media is important for us to do in turn, especially since we expect this courtesy ourselves. We should only use free and open media on our site, as a way to support the creative commons movement! :-)
  3. Licensebox cool… licensebox awesome…

Don't you just wanna get in there and implement this component?

How?

Implementing the component

We should scan through pages that don't have the license box, adding the _licensebox tag to pages we add it to.

Content of old author collapsibles should go into an info module rate box.

Use the wikiproject tracker to track the progress of this and other wikiprojects.

Better documentation

Perhaps rewrite the documentation on the license box component page to be more concise and clear. We should definitely write some sort of separate guide for people who want to use the Backrooms Wiki in their own projects, and go over how to attribute pages properly.
